It’s in the bag! The Because we care bag…

It’s a decades-old tradition at St. Boniface Hospital – a chance for staff to gather and catch up with one another.

Fifty-seven years ago, the Grey Nuns, founders of St. Boniface Hospital, organized a picnic to show their appreciation for hospital employees. Every year since then, a picnic is held in June – weather permitting – in the Sisters Garden, a beautiful green space nestled behind the hospital near the Red River.

With COVID-19 upending many plans, this year’s event could not take place as it had in the past. The Hospital took time to find an alternative way to express its gratitude to employees for their dedication in these challenging times.

Now, thanks to the support of Foundation donors through the COVID-19 Response Fund, every employee and caregiver is receiving a care package: one Because we care bag, two non-medical cloth masks with the hospital logo, and a gift card.

“Please accept these care packages as an expression of my profound gratitude for all the work you do every day under often challenging conditions. Merci!”
Martine Bouchard, President & CEO, St. Boniface Hospital, to hospital staff

“With the help of volunteers, we put together over 4,500 care bags for staff and ensured their distribution,” said Nicole Cazemayor, a member of the Hospital’s Staff Recognition Working Group.

“St. B.’s spirit is alive in the dedicated people working here on campus.”
