A night of glamour and cardiac excellence

St. Boniface Hospital Foundation’s annual Rosé Soirée lit up the sky at St. Boniface Cathedral Ruins for women’s heart health on September 13.

Rosé Soirée raises over $140,000 for women’s heart health research

On a beautiful fall evening, more than 300 guests gathered to indulge, mingle, and support women’s heart health research at St. Boniface Hospital.

The spectacular event raised over $140,000 through ticket sales, generous sponsors, an online silent auction, Fund-A-Need live auction, and a raffle to win a sparkling diamond pendant donated by Simon Imports.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed surprise performances from the Manitoba Opera and an eclectic setlist from the Luminous String Quartet. They also indulged in imaginative culinary creations from local chefs coordinated by WOW Hospitality, with impeccable wine pairings from De Nardi  Food & Wine. Sensational steamed scallops, smoked Maplewood oysters served on the half shell, and fruit-focused mocktails were some of the delicious heart-healthy options available to guests. For the ultimate indulgence, there was a fresh carbonara mixed in a cheese wheel to delight the senses. A living champagne wall, the first of its kind in Winnipeg, provided patrons with a whimsical way to indulge.

St. Boniface Hospital Foundation President and CEO Karen Fowler remarked that through more research into how women’s hearts beat, “we can give women more time.”

We can give women more time.

St. Boniface Hospital Research is working to merge compassion and innovation with a dedicated Women’s Heart Health Research Initiative. Dr. Lorrie Kirshenbaum, director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, emphasized that this is a vital program that can, and will, save lives.

“Traditional research has been failing women. They are under-researched in cardiac sciences, under-represented in clinical trials, and their symptoms often go under-recognized. In Manitoba, we are the only province without a research program dedicated to women’s heart health.”

But there is hope, says Kirshenbaum. “By growing our knowledge here at St. Boniface, we can increase awareness, improve diagnoses, and empower women and their doctors to better recognize symptoms.”

Phase one of the pivotal Women’s Heart Health Research Initiative will significantly increase research capacity, adding three scientists dedicated to the study of women’s cardiac issues to an already-esteemed team. One of these scientists will be a clinician-scientist, bridging new findings with bedside care, making a powerful difference in how women’s cardiac events are diagnosed and treated.

This program will be the first for Manitoba and will have a significant transformational impact on women here, and around the world.

Tickets for the Rosé Soirée event sold out well in advance, emphasizing the commitment to groundbreaking research for women that will have impactful results. “With your support, St. Boniface Hospital will close the knowledge gap in women’s heart health. We will see the results in longer, healthier lives for the women we love,” said Fowler.

We will see the results in longer, healthier lives for the women we love.

After the evening’s diamond pendant raffle winner was announced, guests moved to the cathedral steps to see a stunning display of fireworks light up the night sky, in a fitting celebration of the support shown by all involved.

St. Boniface Hospital Foundation thanks Chrissy Troy, emcee; our generous sponsors, and every Rosé Soirée guest, vendor, and donor for their kindness, dedication, and expertise.

We look forward to welcoming everyone once again at our 2024 Rosé Soirée.
