Access Credit Union Paves New Ground

The Emergency Department redevelopment campaign received a generous boost last week, thanks to Access Credit Union.

The generous $100,000 gift will revitalize critical care when Manitobans need it most. The Emergency Department redevelopment will set a new standard in emergency care, with compassion at the heart of every interaction. Improvements will include an expanded waiting room, a dedicated bereavement room and end-of-life treatment room, staff rooms for decompression after especially difficult cases, and a dedicated mental health zone.

Access Credit Union’s CEO, Larry Davey shared, “The magnitude and care put into the aspects of this project are incredible. This is not only an emergency room redevelopment to serve more patients, but also provides a space for loved ones to be together, and an improved work environment for the doctors and nurses.”

“We’re trying to help St. Boniface Hospital get from better to best. Support from generous organizations like Access Credit Union is what will get us there,” remarked St. Boniface Hospital Foundation President and CEO, Karen Fowler. “Gifts like this truly have the largest impact on patient care.”

Nearly 42,000 patients are seen annually at St. Boniface Hospital’s Emergency Department. That equates to about 116 patients every day. Built in 1955, the current ED space has served a rapidly growing population with minimal upgrades for almost seven decades. Our community deserves a space with timely, compassionate, and equitable care for all.

The $10 million Emergency Department campaign is in its home stretch. Donor generosity will play a crucial role in this campaign, helping St. Boniface Hospital Foundation build a bridge to the best patient care for those in need.

Access Credit Union Board Chair Curt Letkeman added, “I have two friends who are alive today because of your Hospital’s work. You do so much to save lives here, and we’re happy to help you continue that.”
