On a sunny Monday, golfers teed off for a heartfelt cause at Niakwa Country Club. The twelfth annual National Bank Cardiac Classic, one of the Foundation’s flagship events, saw incredible generosity supporting both cardiac care and research. The day promised not only friendly competition, but an opportunity to make a big impact on Manitobans.
Golfers and teams really stepped up this year, raising a total of $101,565. From the inaugural tournament more than a decade ago, the event has now raised more than $900,000 for cardiac care and related research at St. Boniface Hospital.
Karen Fowler, President and CEO of St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, emphasized how much of a difference the day will make for Manitobans. “We’re incredibly grateful to all of you for your investment and participation in this tournament. Just like a good golf swing, every bit helps keep things in balance.”
Dr. Inna Rabinovich-Nikitin, focused on women’s heart health research, and Dr. Anita Soni, focused on patient care, spent the day chatting with golfers about what their support will make possible. Proceeds will be split between patient care, with the purchase of a new Sonosite Point-of-Care ultrasound machine, and game-changing research happening at the Research Centre. Both equipment and program fit together like a glove when it comes to saving more lives, and will lead to more awareness, quicker diagnoses, and more effective treatments.
The day was packed with memorable moments, starting at the donation table, where golfers eagerly showed off who could be the most generous for this amazing cause. Teams got creative at our team photo stop, striking fun stances that captured the day’s spirit. Fashion was in full swing, with golfers sporting colourful shirts and stylish golf attire. After the game, the patio was filled with laughter as everyone enjoyed a well-deserved drink and dinner, rounding off a fantastic day on the green.
Cardiac Sciences provides compassionate care for nearly 47,000 patient visits and more than 800 cardiac surgeries at the Hospital each year. Meanwhile, the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences (ICS) at St. Boniface Hospital Research is widely regarded as one of the premier cardiovascular teams in North America.
