On September 5, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights was transformed into the enchanting shores of Lake Como, Italy, for St. Boniface Hospital Foundation’s 2024 Rosé Soirée.
This elegant evening brought together over 300 guests united by their hope of bridging the knowledge gap in women’s cardiac research. The spectacular event raised $150,000 thanks to generous sponsors, guests, event patrons, silent and live auctions, and a raffle to win a sparkling diamond pendant donated by Simon Imports.
The night was alive with the spirit of Lake Como, from Italian melodies and gentle rustling of olive trees to the bustling night market-style culinary booths. As guests wandered through this Italian dreamscape, they indulged in an exceptional culinary experience curated by Wow Catering and Winnipeg’s top chefs, including the highly anticipated parmesan cheese wheel from De Nardi.
Guests were delighted by prosecco served with whimsy from Living Wall Magic and rang the bell again at the end of the evening to take home a tasty treat: an Italian peach dessert.
Why Jackie wears her crown
Women’s heart health advocate Jackie Ratz, who lives with heart failure, delivered a powerful testimony emphasizing the real impact this research will have on women in Manitoba. “I wear a crown tonight as a symbol that I am a Heart Warrior Queen, and for all of the other Heart Warrior Queens. The crowns we wear may be different, but we stand united. I hope you will help us make this Women’s Heart Health Research program a reality – a reality that will impact your daughters, granddaughters, nieces, wives, mothers, sisters, and friends.”
St. Boniface Hospital is building their women’s heart health research program alongside patient partners; the first of its kind in Manitoba. “We’re so grateful for advocacy from patients like Jackie. It’s a priority for us to develop this program for women, with women,” said Dr. Anita Soni, Medical Specialty Lead for Cardiac Sciences.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women worldwide, yet women remain under-represented and under-diagnosed. St. Boniface Hospital hopes to level the playing field in traditional cardiac research. A dedicated research program like this is critical to increase awareness of women’s unique symptoms, improve diagnoses, and empower women to recognize their own signs and symptoms.
The evening was a perfect blend of glamour and philanthropy, with proceeds supporting this vital cause. Auction partners allowed the guests to bid on incredible prizes including airfare for two generously donated by the Air Canada Foundation, an opportunity to become a researcher for a day in St. B’s unique Youth BIOlab, and even host their own magical private dinner in the St. Boniface Cathedral Ruins. The bidding also went online with the return of our silent auction powered by Givergy and made possible by dozens of kind prize donations.
One step closer to a world without heart disease
Karen Fowler, Foundation President and CEO, underscored how amazing it is to have a community of such committed supporters. “This evening, we’re here to not only have a good time, but also, do a lot of good. Every dollar given tonight is a step closer to a world where heart disease no longer claims so many of our mothers, our daughters, our sisters, and our friends. On behalf of them, and on behalf of St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, thank you.”
As the beautiful evening drew to a close, guests were treated to a showstopping performance by world-renowned performer Michael Sicoly.
The Foundation would like to thank Chrissy Troy, our emcee; our generous sponsors who make the magic possible, and every Rosé Soirée guest, vendor, and donor for their kindness, dedication, and expertise.
Although the evening has ended, your commitment to women’s heart health doesn’t have to. You can advance this vital research program by making a gift today.
