WINNIPEG – April 23, 2026 –St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, in partnership with St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre, is proud to announce that $1.7 million has been raised in support of women’s heart health, made possible through the extraordinary generosity of donors.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death among women worldwide and affects women of all ages. In response, St. Boniface Hospital is leading the development of a dedicated Women’s Heart Health research program aimed at reducing the burden of heart disease and improving the quality of life for women across Manitoba.
Funds raised to date are supporting the recruitment of two new basic cardiovascular health researchers, strengthening existing expertise and accelerating research focused specifically on women’s heart health. Their work will contribute to a deeper understanding of sex- and gender-based differences in cardiovascular disease, helping to close critical knowledge gaps.
Dr. Lorrie Kirshenbaum, Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at the St. Boniface Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre, explains the significance of this milestone: “We are deeply grateful to the donors who have made this progress possible. Our goal is to expand capacity through the strategic recruitment of scientists focused on women’s cardiovascular health and ultimately improving outcomes for women.”
Celebrating Women’s Heart Health at Rosé Soirée, presented by Access Credit Union
Women’s Heart Health will also be in the spotlight at Rosé Soirée, presented by Access Credit Union. Winnipeg’s signature fundraising event returns for one exclusive evening under the theme A Night in Paris at the St. Boniface Cathedral on September 3, where elegance and generosity come together. Proceeds will support priority needs in women’s heart health and the acquisition of essential equipment.
