Quelle belle soirée! The magic of the City of Light sparkled brightly in the Canadian Museum for Human Rights at Rosé Soirée: A Night in Paris, presented by Access Credit Union.
St. Boniface Hospital Foundation’s seventh annual fundraising , raised a record-breaking $215,000 to power specialized women’s heart care and research at the Hospital.
Stepping through the doors of the CMHR, guests were transported into an enchanted evening filled with Parisian-style elegance: fine wines, gourmet bites curated by Winnipeg’s top chefs, and delicate pâtisseries. Yes, there was even a scale version of the Eiffel Tower!
Future heart clinic will make a difference
Former cardiac patient and guest speaker Mabel Garcea shared her experience of living through three heart attacks and years of uncertainty before learning what was wrong with her.
“For a long time, I dreamed of a clinic dedicated to women with heart disease,” she said, referencing the future Women’s Heart Care Clinic and Research at St. Boniface Hospital. “It would be a place where women could be heard, understood, supported, and receive the care they deserve.”
Her voice breaking with emotion, Garcea added that the future clinic represents not just a building or medical program. “This represents something more; turning a difficult experience in my life into an opportunity to help other women,” she said.
Initiatives game-changers for Manitoba women
Myrna Wiebe, Chief Executive of presenting sponsor Access Credit Union, spoke about the fund-a-need causes of the night.
One, a new, mobile point-of-care ultrasound device used for detailed assessments of heart function in pregnant women when they have heart disease.
The other, a first-in-Manitoba clinical testing program at St. B headed by Dr. Shuangbo Liu, Interventional Cardiologist. The day procedure is called coronary reactivity testing, and it measures how tiny vessels in the heart react to different situations, explained Wiebe.
“These initiatives are about much more than equipment, programs, or medical innovation,” she said. “They are about a woman no longer having to wait for answers about her health. They are about a family finding certainty in uncertain times. They are about access to world-class women’s heart care right here in Manitoba.”
“Did you hear that? World-class care right here in Manitoba,” she repeated, as applause filled the room.
Trip to France auctioned live
A much-anticipated part of the night was the live auction by Charity Auction Group. Among many exciting local prizes, the top offering was, truly, “The Trip of a Lifetime” to Champagne and Paris, France, .
Guests also had the chance to buy raffle tickets to win a gorgeous, custom 14kt white gold diamond and blue sapphire pendant, with a total gemstone weight of 2.62 carats, donated by Simon Imports.
