Your support can help cardiac patients like Kelley Turnbull get through open-heart surgery, and its aftershocks. Adding your voice will make the biggest difference for women in Manitoba most of all!
Turnbull, of Winnipeg, underwent surgery at St. Boniface Hospital in July of 2017 to replace her aortic valve, adding her to nearly 47,000 patient visits made to the Hospital’s Cardiac Sciences program each year. Kelley had been born with a bicuspid aortic valve, with two flaps instead of three. It wasn’t opening and closing as it should.
Her St. B caregivers helped Kelley, her husband, Rick, and their adult children, David and Danielle, navigate the difficult emotions associated with significant cardiac surgery. In particular, they gave Kelley the time and support she needed to come to terms with the scar on her chest.
“The compassion at St. Boniface Hospital made a difference for me,” said Turnbull.
