The Women’s Heart Health Initiative

Women’s heart health: underrepresented and unrecognized
Heart disease is the number one killer of Canadian women, and it’s on the rise. A growing body of evidence shows that women often experience more frequent, severe, and fatal outcomes than their male counterparts. In many cases, heart disease is preventable.

These women are our mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends. These women are us. And although they make up about half the population, they are not equally represented in research. Women deserve to have their health care equally valued.

Closing this knowledge gap is one way to ensure better outcomes for women with cardiovascular disease. Support our initiative today.

St. Boniface Hospital is leading the development of a dedicated women’s heart health research program in Manitoba to decrease the burden of heart disease in our province and improve the quality of life for our community.

By dedicating more research to women’s heart health. St. B will undoubtedly yield groundbreaking discoveries, improving early diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare delivery for women here and beyond.

St. Boniface Hospital aims to raise $1.7 million to make the first phase of the Women’s Heart Health Research Initiative a reality. Your support will provide salary and research support for two basic researchers and help recruit one clinician-scientist.

Your support will make a difference.

It’s time to do right by women. Together, we can close the research gap and fight back against preventable deaths.
