On December 30, 2016, Dr. John Foerster was named a member of the Order of Canada for his contributions to health care administration and the creation of St. Boniface Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre. A professor at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine, Foerster specialized in hematology and oncology. In 1975, Foerster was named head of medicine of St. Boniface Hospital, and a decade later, he was recruited as the Hospital’s first Executive Director of Research. In 1990, he championed the province’s first Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner (MRI), and he was instrumental in leading the creation of the Hospital’s Centre for Research on Aging in 1998.
A recipient of the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation’s International Award in 2004, Foerster has made incredible contributions to the Hospital’s growth. Foerster was appointed to the Order of Canada by Canada’s Governor General David Johnston last December, with an official ceremony to take place later this year.
