Keeping connected during COVID-19

Patients have more opportunities to stay connected with family and friends, even as the Hospital is closed to visitors in response to COVID-19.

Through the COVID-19 Response Fund, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation has co-ordinated the installation of new phone lines with patient bedside services provider Health Hub and Bell MTS. The increase in capacity allows more patients to call outside lines at the same time. Funding includes three months of monthly telecom fees.

“A stay in hospital can be an isolating experience even during normal circumstances,” said Foundation President and CEO Vince Barletta. “During this time when the Hospital is taking necessary measures to protect patients and staff, it’s also important to make sure patients and their loved ones can still be in contact safely, by phone.”

The Foundation and Health Hub have also teamed up to offer free-of-charge patient television services through April 30.

“There are many facets to patient well-being, from the need for social interaction to food and other comforts,” added Barletta, “and we’re thankful for the generosity of every donor who gives to ease the stay of St. Boniface Hospital patients.”
